“Quatre-quart” waffles are the buttery treats we used to enjoy when we were children. What’s more, Luc uses his grandmother’s recipe. You won’t be able to resist this deliciously soft delight.
In Belgium, 4/4 waffles are like the ones our grandmothers used to make at New Year to give to anyone who came to give us their best wishes. These days, we eat these waffles at any time of the year, with a tea or coffee, for breakfast for children, or when we fancy a snack.
Luc’s favourite recipe: “Gourmet” waffles
These waffles are “magical”. Everyone likes them anyway. They can also be enjoyed on their own or, if you’re a foodie like him: with kiwi fruit and banana and Chantilly cream, sprinkled with chocolate shavings.
The ingredients and method for these waffles was handed down to me by my maternal grandmother.
I spent an awful lot of time with her from a very young age, learning how to make decent waffles:
-“Luc, wash your hands.”
-“Luc, they’re going to stick if you forget to oil the iron…”
-“But Luc, let them cook a bit longer, they are too pale for God’s sake!”
-“There you go, you’ve done it: it smells burned, two waffles for the chickens.”
-“STOP EATING TOO MUCH DOUGH: YOU’RE GOING TO GET INDIGESTION!!!”
-“Listen to them cook.”
-“Ouch, you’ve burned yourself, quick, let’s kiss it better”
